Rustenburg situated in
the North West Province at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountain range means
“town of rest” in Afrikaans and also the “Platinum City”
because of the
Platinum mined in the area.
Try the 5.5kms
Peglarae hiking trail starting at the visitor centre to the Kgaswane Mountain
Reserve where there are picnic spots, braai areas ideal for relaxing and bird
watching, there are over 250 bird species with the Cape Vulture as a special
feature, while you are there keep a look out for Sables, Zebra, Klipspringer
,Mountain Reedbuck and predators Jackal, Carakul and Leopard. Don’t forget your
sun hat, sunglasses, sun block and of course your binoculars and camera. Kgaswane
Mountain Reserve also has a bike trail.



For the Golf
enthusiast, Rustenburg Golf Club, an 18 hole Royal Blue Cynodon grass on the
greens making putting different to bent grass courses with two dams on the 1st
and 6th hole for more of a challenge.


While in Rustenburg
take a drive to Kedar Country Hotel Conference Centre and Spa located on Paul
Kruger’s farm Boekenhoutfontein. It is a National Monument sporting 1200 acres
of bushveld with Game and birds a plenty.

& Spa has the Magaliesberg Canopy Tour an exhilarating trip through the
Magaliesberg on cabled slides being one with nature and the spectacular
Ysterhout Kloof as you move from platform to platform or for the less

a half hour game drive.
There are a variety of
historical and cultural interests to be found in the area such as the museum in
the Town Hall exhibiting local history and archaeology, where the statue of
Paul Kruger is found depicted by French sculptor Archard, depicting the president
during his last days of exile.

Rustenburg has many
B&B’s and guesthouses like Rainhill Farm B&B with a farmers market once
a month or Franka Guesthouse, Mary’s B&B, Boubou B&B, Akwaaba Lodge,
Thaba Legae Guest Lodge to mention a few.

Sundown Ranch Hotel is
another bushveld getaway with the Stage Coach Grill offering sumptuous meals. A
must is to visit the Lion cubs, you can feed and cuddle the little ones and
have photo’s taken.
This bushveld town
